Where and for how long is the judgment registered?

A Judgment is recorded on the Register of Judgments administered by Registry Trust Limited who maintain the official statutory Register of Judgments, Orders, and Fines for England & Wales on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, and maintain similar Registers for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, and Jersey by agreement with the relevant authorities.

Judgments are held on the register for a period of six years unless:

  • They are cancelled
  • Paid within one calendar month
  • Set aside by the relevant court

If a judgment is paid after one calendar month, then it is marked as satisfied but remains on the public register for six years.
