What happens to the judgment after six years?
After six years the judgment is removed from the register as six years is considered an appropriate time for the creditor to recover the debt. The judgment however can still be enforced after six years if it has not been recovered within that time. Under the Limitation Act (1980), a judgment can only be enforced within six years, unless the creditor is granted permission by the court to extend the judgment. A judgment may be extended if it is about to expire and no payments have yet been made, but for this to happen a strong case for why the money wasn’t recovered within the time limit will be needed.
