Investor Data is Now Available in Company Watch
Explore all investor data types to better understand a company's funding structure and capital relationships.
We've enhanced the Company Watch platform with comprehensive Investor Data, giving you a richer view of how companies are funded. You can now access circa 400k companies that have undertaken some form of capital raising. Our investor information is sourced independently to complement the shareholder register, covering six investor types — from individual angel investors through to large corporate venture capital arms.
This data is particularly valuable for understanding early-stage and growth-stage companies where traditional financial indicators alone may not tell the full picture. Knowing who has invested, and in what capacity, helps you assess strategic intent, funding maturity, and potential risk exposure.
Gold plan only— Investor data is available exclusively to Gold subscribers.
Please note: Investor information is sourced independently and complements the shareholder register. The investor list may not include every party listed on the Confirmation Statement (CS01) filed at Companies House.
Why This Matters
Understanding the investor profile of a company helps you go beyond balance sheet analysis. For example, a company with a low H-Score® but significant Angel or Venture Capital backing may be in a deliberately pre-profit growth phase — context that would be missed without investor insight. Equally, Officer capital investment can signal strong founder commitment, while Corporate Venture Capital backing may indicate strategic alignment with a larger industry player.
With this data, you can quickly identify:
-
- Angel investors — high-net-worth individuals providing early personal capital
- Corporate strategic backers — established companies with a stake in the business
- Institutional venture and private equity — professional investors managing pooled capital
- Officer and founder investment — insiders who have put their own capital in
- Family and personal network funding — early informal capital from close connections
The Six Investor Types:
-
Angel
High-net-worth individuals who provide personal capital to early-stage startups in exchange for equity or convertible debt. Typically the first external investors in a company.
-
Corporate Venture Capital
Large, established corporations that invest their own funds directly into external startups. Unlike traditional VCs, CVCs seek both financial returns and strategic benefits such as access to new technologies or markets.
-
Venture Capital
Individual venture capital investors who provide funding to early-stage, high-growth-potential startups in exchange for equity. Supports companies — often pre-profit — to help them scale rapidly.
-
Private Equity
Firms or professionals that raise capital from institutional investors — such as pension funds, endowments, and high-net-worth individuals — to acquire, improve, and sell private companies for a profit.
-
Officer
Existing or previous directors and other registered officers who have invested their own capital in the company — a strong signal of insider conviction and founder commitment.
-
Family
Family-linked individual holdings: persons within a startup founder's personal network — such as a parent, spouse, sibling, or relative — who provide early capital to help start or grow the business.
How to Access the Data
You can view investor data in two ways within the Company Watch platform:
- Health Profile Notification On the Health Profile page, look for the blue notification flag labelled Investment capital. This alert indicates that the company appears to have investment of a specific type (for example, Angel capital investment). Click the View Investors link within the notification to go directly to the investor list.
- Company Info → Directors & Shareholders Use the left-hand navigation to go to Company Info > Directors & Shareholders. Scroll down past the Shareholders section to find the Investors table below.
Filter, Sort, and Explore
Once in the Investors section, you can sort and filter the data using the following columns to focus on what matters most to your analysis:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Investor Name | The name of the individual or organisation that has invested in the company. |
| Investor Type | The category of investment (Angel, Corporate Venture Capital, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Officer, or Family). Use this to filter by funding stage or investor profile. |
| Total Purchase Value | The total value of shares purchased by the investor. Useful for understanding the scale of an individual investor's commitment. |
| Shares Since | The date from which the investor has held shares. Helps identify the earliest investors and track the funding timeline. |
| Shares Last Confirmed | The most recent date on which the investor's shareholding was confirmed. Indicates data freshness. |
This data provides greater transparency into a company's funding structure, helping you make more informed decisions about financial risk, strategic relationships, and investor confidence.
