Creditor Data

Explore all creditor data types to better understand a company’s liabilities and risk.

We’ve enhanced the Company Watch platform with a major upgrade to creditor visibility. You can now access All Creditors data sourced directly from a distressed company’s Statement of Affairs, giving you a clearer and more complete view of a company’s financial obligations at the point of insolvency.

Previously, creditor insights focused mainly on Unsecured creditors (such as trade suppliers). With this update, we now provide visibility across six creditor categories derived from the Statement of Affairs, helping you understand who a company owed money to and the priority of those debts when insolvency proceedings began.

Why This Matters

Seeing the full creditor picture helps you assess financial risk more accurately. For example, a company may appear to have minimal trade debt but could still carry significant liabilities through bank borrowing or intercompany loans.Because this data originates from the Statement of Affairs submitted during insolvency proceedings, it provides a structured snapshot of all known liabilities and their ranking at the time of distress.

With this update, you can quickly identify:

  • Secured lenders such as banks or invoice finance providers

  • Statutory debts including HMRC and employee-related obligations

  • Trade creditors like suppliers and utilities

  • Group company loans and internal funding dependencies

  • International creditors indicating overseas supply chain exposure

  • Other accounting liabilities, such as accruals and expenses

Understanding this pecking order of debt, as reported in the Statement of Affairs, is crucial when analysing a company’s financial position and potential recovery outcomes.

The Six Creditor Types

The new dataset includes:

  • Secured – Creditors with legal security over assets (e.g. banks)

  • Preferential – Statutory priority creditors (e.g. HMRC, employee wages)

  • Unsecured – Trade suppliers and service providers

  • Associated Company – Parent or subsidiary company loans

  • International – Creditors registered outside the UK

  • Other – Accounting liabilities such as accruals or expenses
